On the path to being a great home inspector, our owner James Bell decided to document his learnings from starting a home inspection business, to marketing his home inspection business, to actual home inspection topics he learned operating his home inspection business. His learnings are now available in his book, Home Inspection Lessons available now on iTunes, Amazon, and Kobo bookstores.

Home Inspectors are a special type of people. Good home inspectors are excellent communicators, detailed, and willing to address tough questions on behalf of our clients. Being a home inspector also requires an encyclopaedia worth of knowledge, an understanding of building sciences, and a good instinct for when things are not right. 


About the Author

James Bell holds a Degree in Entrepreneurial Management from Royal Roads University and spent nearly two decades creating product lines and marketing goods and services from the head offices of Radio Shack, Best Buy, and Future Shop.


Wanting to make a name for himself as an entrepreneur and seeing an opportunity to improve the client experience in the home inspection industry, James Bell started Honesty and Integrity Investigations in 2009 and in 2012 re-branded and launched as Solid State Home Inspections.


In his book, Home Inspection Lessons, James shares his expertise in marketing and branding as he successfully translated his retail experience to the home inspection industry. He also shares nearly 100 other lessons he learned as a home inspector that every other home inspector needs to know.
